Lymph is Good
chronicles the journey of an active 30-something Dallas-ite trying to keep her head up while grappling with primary lymphedema.

The Setback

Heather has brought to my attention a new variable to add to the neverending list of variables as to why my measurements have gone up. I eat a healthy diet, avoid salt like the plague, exercise regularly, elevate my leg, wear my compression garment, use my pneumatic compression device like it’s my source of air everyday, and generally speaking pay attention to my leg like it’s a small child poised for a tantrum at any moment.

The new variable: my compression garment is too tight. Too tight?! I didn’t even know what to say to this… She says that it’s actually causing my leg to swell more. Swell more?! I didn’t even know what to say to this… She says that the lymph flow that can move through my leg is actually being restricted by the garment being too tight.

Class 4 is too high.

And so, I’m back to bandaging. We’re testing it out at least. Right now it’s all a theory. Hypotheticals. That’s my life. I don’t even know how to spell the word “normal” anymore… it’s just that far away.
